While enjoying a well earned holiday in Europe. Back at the house Karen and co are working on the garden. Ken is unaware that the work is being carried out while he is away. He is in for a big surprise
Before : Front Garden along the driveway.
The lavender is nice but very high maintenance as it needs to be pruned regularly to allow for parking the cars. Not to mention there are some camellias being overcrowded by the lavender
(Lavenders tend to get very woody if not cut back hard each year)
After:
In keeping with the mauve theme, we have removed the lavender and replaced it with Strobilanthus anisophyllus ‘Goldfussia’ as it has lavender coloured flowers and foliage that has a purplish tinge giving a nice contrast to the painted walls. The white flowering plant at the front is called Iberis sempervirens ‘candytuft’ displays well adding a brightness to an area that is shady
Strobilanthus anisophylla
‘Goldfussia’
The lavender is overgrown and has dead limbs.
Each of the planter boxes have a standard rose but the ground cover plants are different in each box.
The line of the planting follows the line of the pathway, creating uniformity and formality!
Creating balance either side of the path
Echium fastuosum. A beautiful Mediterranean feature plant that would look good in any garden
Karen, what can we do with this?
What if we paint the fence and put a timber screen at the back, a stylish water feature and a garden bed at the front to soften the edges! Fantastic!
A great finishing touch!
The row of plants in front of the water feature will soften the hard surfaces of the pavers and stone
After removing some weeds, we re arranged a few things and added some flowering plants for colour
BEFORE: The chain wire fence with a climber growing on it is high maintenance and the area can be enhanced by putting in a timber screen that will match the timber screen that we have installed on the other side of the garden.
AFTER : The timber screen is enhanced with a potted specimen plant - Yucca elaphantipes
Thank you Anita and Ken for allowing me to share my passion for plants with you. It has been great fun and I hope you get many years of please and relaxation spending time in your garden.
Remember to stick to the maintenance plan and the handy hints guide. Working in the garden should be an enjoyable pastime not a chore. If you use the maintenance plan then you should find it easy. I am only a phone call away
Regards
Karen
