When everyone is in bed at night Clancy the caterpillar would come out to feast on all the juicy lettuce growing in Granny Freda's garden. Clancy never came out in the daytime cause if granny spots him, he will be headed straight to the compost bin.

Clancy was too clever for that! Granny wasn't going to get his guts for compost. No way, he was going to sleep all day and feed all night.

Granny loved her veggie patch. If she caught any little caterpillars ready to pounce on her juicy lettuce she would squash the living daylights out of them with her big boots.

Clancy, being a 'greedy guts', didn't like to share with the other caterpillars. He wanted to eat all the lettuce himself. His belly was getting to be so large that he was starting to get a bit 'sluggish'.

One morning, when Granny Freda came out to tend to the veggie patch she almost flipped her lid. There starring here in the face were her precious lettuces with so many holes they looked like Swiss cheese! "Who has been eating my lettuce"?   There, before her eyes was Clancy sprawled out in the middle of a lettuce. His belly was so fat because he had eaten three whole lettuce.

Granny's eyes bulged almost right out of her skull. She was furious. All the other caterpillars were hiding when they heard her coming along the path in her giant sized boots. They were scared for Clancy.

When Clancy looked up and saw Granny leaning over the lettuce he was shocked. How could he have fallen asleep in the middle of the lettuce? If only he hadn't been so greedy. If only he had shared with the others.

With one big swoop Granny picked him up and put him in a jar. She was peering at him through the glass with her bulging eyes. Clancy was scared, he knew that she was angry.

"OK Mr. Greedy guts I am going to teach you a lesson" she said. "No more lettuce for you, it will be brussell sprouts forever".

Oh no!  Clancy hated brussell sprouts! Even though his mother always told him how good they were for him. Granny kept him in the house and fed him nothing but brussell sprouts!

After two weeks Clancy realised that he had been greedy and he missed his friends. He learned to like the sprouts and he also lost his fat belly. He promised granny that he would not be so greedy in the future and he was allowed to go back out into the garden and share with his friends. He also realised that old Granny was really a nice lady who taught him to be kind to others and share so that everyone can enjoy the juicy lettuce.

The brussell sprouts made him big and strong and his friends welcomed him back into the garden. Since Clancy began to share he has made even more friends including Granny Freda.
